Roc Nation: Rapsody "Eve" LP Creative Direction
Client: Roc Nation, Jamala Records
Year: 2019
Role: Creative Direction, Campaign Development, Strategy, Digital, and Print
Crafting the visual identity for Rapsody’s third studio album, Eve, was a deeply rewarding challenge. As an album rooted in celebrating historic Black women, Eve carried a profound cultural narrative that deserved a bold and inspiring campaign. Collaborating closely with Rapsody, Roc Nation, and Jamala Records, I developed a creative strategy that brought this vision to life across digital, print, and physical mediums.
The album concept—a tribute to influential women like Ibtihaj Muhammad, Oprah Winfrey, and Maya Angelou—required visuals that could capture the depth of Rapsody’s storytelling. I designed assets that spanned digital and social media, stage visuals, the album cover, vinyl layouts, and merchandise, ensuring the project’s cohesive identity extended into every touchpoint.
The Eve album cover became a centerpiece, blending elegance with the unapologetic strength that defined the music. The campaign pushed design boundaries, embracing layered storytelling and abstract elements that mirrored the complexity of Rapsody’s lyrics. From physical vinyl to collectible merchandise, the work resonated with fans and collectors alike, adding a tactile dimension to the album’s legacy.
The impact was significant. Eve earned two Grammy nominations for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song, cementing its place as a cultural milestone. For me, this project was both a professional triumph and a personal milestone. As a fan of hip-hop culture, it was an honor to contribute to such an influential album and collaborate with a visionary artist like Rapsody. Designing for Eve reinforced my belief in the power of creative storytelling to elevate music and culture alike.
